Student Counselling Support In Bristol

Supporting Your Mental Health as a Student in Bristol

Studying in Bristol can be an exciting and transformative time – but it can also be challenging. Whether you’re adjusting to university life, facing academic pressures, or navigating personal struggles, you’re not alone.

At Heart to Heart, we offer a dedicated student counselling service in Bristol that is inclusive, flexible and affordable. We’re here to support you through whatever you’re facing – big or small – with respect, warmth and zero judgement.

Why Students Seek Counselling

Being a student often means balancing coursework, deadlines, social life, finances, relationships, and sometimes part-time work – all while trying to figure out who you are and what you want from life.

It’s a lot.

Common reasons students come to us for counselling include:

  • Anxiety, panic attacks or low mood
  • Stress related to exams, essays or deadlines
  • Homesickness or adjusting to university life
  • Loneliness or social anxiety
  • Relationship issues or breakups
  • Struggles with identity, self-esteem or confidence
  • Family problems or difficult upbringings
  • Grief or bereavement
  • Self-harm, eating concerns or suicidal thoughts
  • Trauma or experiences of abuse
  • Feeling lost, overwhelmed or stuck

Our student counselling in Bristol offers a space to be honest about how you’re really doing – without fear of being judged, diagnosed, or told what to do.

What Is Student Counselling?

Student counselling is a form of talking therapy that helps you explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences in a safe, confidential environment. It’s your space – your time – to process what’s happening and what you might need.

At Heart to Heart, we won’t give you advice or quick fixes. Instead, we’ll support you in understanding yourself more deeply, so you can make choices that feel right for you.

Counselling can help with:

  • Managing stress, anxiety or depression
  • Understanding difficult emotions or behaviour patterns
  • Improving relationships and communication
  • Processing past events or trauma
  • Building confidence and resilience
  • Finding a sense of meaning and direction

You don’t need a mental health diagnosis to come to therapy. If something’s affecting your wellbeing, you deserve support.

Our Approach to Student Counselling in Bristol

We understand how important it is for students to feel respected, seen and heard.

That’s why our counselling is:

  • Person-centred – we focus on what matters to you
  • Flexible – choose in-person or online sessions
  • Inclusive – we welcome students of all backgrounds, genders, sexualities and identities
  • Affordable – with options to suit your budget
  • Confidential – nothing is shared outside of sessions unless there is a risk of harm

You don’t have to be at breaking point to reach out. Therapy can also be a space for growth, discovery and healing – at your own pace.

Who We Work With

We work with:

  • University students at UoB, UWE and local colleges
  • International students adjusting to life in the UK
  • Postgraduate and mature students balancing multiple responsibilities
  • Students from LGBTQ+ and marginalised backgrounds
  • Students with experience of trauma, abuse or mental health challenges
  • Neurodivergent students
  • Anyone aged 18+ currently in education in or around Bristol

We also welcome referrals from university wellbeing teams, GPs and student support services.

What to Expect from Our Student Counselling Service

Here’s how the process works:

  1. Reach Out
Use our online form or email to make an enquiry. Let us know you’re a student and what kind of support you’re looking for.
  2. Assessment
We’ll offer an initial session (online or in person) to get to know you and understand how we can help.
  3. Start Counselling
We’ll match you with a counsellor and arrange regular sessions – weekly or fortnightly depending on your needs.
  4. Ongoing Support
There’s no set number of sessions. Some students come for a short series, others continue longer-term.

We work with your schedule, and we understand that university life can change quickly. We aim to be as flexible and understanding as possible.

How Much Does It Cost?

We aim to keep our student counselling service accessible. Our current fees are:

  • £30 per session with a student counsellor
  • £40 per session with a qualified counsellor
  • Further concessions may be available depending on financial need

We never want money to be a barrier to getting help. Please ask about low-cost options when you enquire.
